4.1. Methodological overview

The methodology followed in this course is oriented towards the achievement of the learning objectives. A wide range of teaching and learning tasks are implemented, such as lectures, practice sessions, autonomous work, study and assessment tasks.

Students are expected to participate actively in class throughout the semester.

Further information regarding the course will be provided on the first day of class.

The course includes the following learning tasks:

  • Lectures.

The course will address the following topics:

  1. On the scientific status of biolinguistics
  2. Human languages as natural objects
  3. The architecture of the language faculty: the computational system and the lexicon
  4. The interface with the conceptual-intentional system
  5. The interface with the sensory-motor system
  6. Genetic and evolutionary aspects of the language faculty

  1. Basic foundations of research into psycholinguistics: research methods, design of experiments, data analysis and dissemination of results 
  2. Language acquisition
  3. Multilingualism: several languages in just one brain
  4. Comprehension and production in real time: the processing of language
  5. Language disorders and aphasias
